19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his initial title for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has experienced a difficult year, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and struggles with his service game in especial - resulted in him falling of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with long-time coach Cervara.

Currently working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently progressed in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents the player's first trophy following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface after spring of the previous year.

Victory also signifies Medvedev has achieved 21 victories at 21 distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a championship is particularly special," said world number 14 the champion.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter her name was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six title deciders, including in Halle in the past months.

His defensive play style and frequent reactions on court had caused observers to question if his capacity to perform at the top level was concluded.

Yet the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and compete positively, backed up by an better serve.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky opponent, winning 4 of the concluding five games to take the lead.

The pair swapped break points in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first ATP Tour title, took control to force a third set.

He saved 4 early-game chances in a tight third set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, he earned the win with a shot at the net, with his opponent unable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
